5 ways to freshen up the smell in your sink
An unpleasant smell coming from your sink can ruin your dreams of a sparklingly clean kitchen.
Some tougher blockages can only be tackled by professionals. Drain jetting slough from specialists such as www.drainpower.co.uk/drainage-services/drain-jetting/slough uses pressurised water to eliminate problems in a range of different drainage systems.
But if you’re experiencing minor drain issues, here are some tips.
1. Hot Water and Washing-Up Liquid
If you have a garbage disposal integrated into your sink, a sink full of hot water and washing-up liquid can easily flush out any blockages that could be causing unpleasant odours.
- Vinegar and Lemon Ice Cubes
As this CNET article highlights, lemon is a versatile, affordable and effective natural cleaner. So, if hot water and washing-up liquid don’t manage to remove the odour-causing blockage in your garbage disposal, it can be beneficial to throw in a few ice cubes made of lemon wedges and white vinegar.
- Baking Soda and Vinegar
Even if you don’t have a garbage disposal, pouring some boiling water down the drain is a great place to start. However, if you’ve already tried this with little success, you may see better results with baking soda and vinegar.
Start by pouring approximately 250g of baking soda into your sink’s drain and let it sit there for between 10 and 15 minutes. Next, pour between 60 ml and 125ml of white vinegar down the drain. This combination will fizz and bubble, which is exactly what you want to happen. After another 15 minutes have passed, wash it away with a large kettle of boiling water.
4. Baking Soda, Vinegar and Salt
If your drain is experiencing a build-up of tough-to-shift gunk, you might see better results by pouring between 100g and 125g of coarse salt into your sink’s drain, followed by baking soda, white vinegar and a kettle of boiling water.
5. Baking Soda and Lemon Juice
If you aren’t keen on the smell of white vinegar, lemon juice is an excellent alternative that has the added benefit of smelling much fresher.
