Cheese Rolling – This world-famous event is becoming more popular every year. Set on the steep slopes of Coopers hill in Gloucester, the May bank holiday is the date for this often dangerous and exciting event.
People gather to chase a wheel of cheese down the perilous hill, with many injuries being sustained on the way! However, the winner will be able to claim the cheese as their own.
Duck Racing – The pretty village of Bibury is home to the duck race in December and is a great event to attend to get you out and about on Boxing day. All the rubber ducks that set off to race down the River Coln are sponsored, so the money goes to a good cause and the bridges become packed with people eager to get a look at the ducks on their travels downstream!
Woolsack Race – The spring bank holiday in May is a popular time for events, as it is also the date of the annual woolsack race held in Tetbury. The event goes way back to the 1600s, and men (and nowadays women too) run through the streets with a large sack of wool on their back, all determined to be the new champion of the event!
