A holiday by the sea can offer a unique and memorable experience whether you are visiting for a large family gathering or a romantic weekend getaway. However, prices of seaside treats and activities have skyrocketed and can leave you stuck for budget-friendly ideas. With the right location, you can discover natural beauties that you may have never considered visiting before.

Although you may believe you have seen all around your favourite coastal town and the surrounding areas, nature reserves can be a great way of exploring new areas and providing a sense of adventure. Nature reserves are a protected area of natural beauty meaning there can be a plethora of animal and plant species as well as marine life too. They can also provide walking trails so that you can make a day of it.

Trying out local seaside cuisine does not have to be too expensive if you choose the right places. Websites such as TripAdvisor offer thousands of reviews and pictures at the click of a button, giving you an idea of quality and price before you visit. Local shops that are out of the way of the main tourist strip can be a safe bet when wanting a bargain!

Bargain activities can be hard to come by, but you mustn’t dismiss a visit to a museum. Despite some seaside attractions being dated and not particularly kid-friendly,

locations such as St Ives or Southampton have exciting activities within their exhibits that make the visit fun for all. There are plenty of local things to do in St Ives however their Tate art museum can also be worth the visit.

Some towns also host free entertainment if you time your stay right. For example, a village fair, live music events or competitions, which will be unique to the location and can be done easily on a budget.

If you are planning on exploring the surrounding areas during your stay, your first thought may be to hire a car. This can be handy however it is a pricey option and there are alternatives. Choosing to travel by public transport such as local trains or buses is not only an environmentally friendly option, but it can allow you to travel on a budget whilst taking in some scenery.

The moral of the story is that doing your research can uncover activities and attractions that you may have never considered.
