Embracing the Vintage Trend in your Living Room

If you want to go back to a simpler time and embrace that look in your home décor, then a vintage living room could be exactly what you are looking for if you want to give your living room a makeover. Vintage styles cover a wide range of styles and periods of design, so maybe you want to embrace a Victorian look, or you might want to go back to the 70s with your home décor.

First of all, have a look at the styles of various time periods and decades to give you a good idea of what you like, and where you are going to draw your inspiration from. Looking at interior magazines and looking at pictures online help you to get a feel for the style and colours that were used in the eras, and you can then use this to start creating a mood board.

You don’t have to make everything exactly as it would be then – you can take inspiration from a time period but with a modern twist. If you want to get the vintage look but don’t want it to be too full on, then using accessories is a great way to do this. Looking for lamps and ornaments that hark back to that time period you can use them to give a nod to a vintage style without it being too full on. A good place to look for things like this is at a car boot sale and an auction, as you will often find many pieces that are unique as well as being able to grab a bargain!

Another thing that you can do is to focus on colour. Trends in interior colours come and go, and often we can get an idea of a time period from colours that are used in the home. For example, the 70s was awash with bright oranges and muted browns, and the 80s was a time for greys with splashes of bright red. This is a great way to get the feel of the time period but also keeps it modern and unique too.
