Brochure Printing Mistakes to Avoid
These are the main things to check before you send your files to be printed in order to avoid an expensive wasted print run.
Using RGB Instead of CMYK
The majority of design packages allow files to be converted to CMYK within the application prior to export. It is best to convert the files before you send them to the printer. Note that most designer tools have a CMYK option for file saving.
Forgetting Bleed and Safe Margins
The bleed area needs to be 3mm plus outside of the trim area. The safe area inside the trim for text or logo’s is 5mm plus.
Supplying Low-Resolution Images
The resolution of images needs to be at least 300 dpi at the print size as images that look clear on screen can often have a low resolution of less than 100 dpi. The resolution of an image can be checked in the image’s file properties or by opening the image in an image editing application.
Sending Files Before Copy Is Final
Even small changes such as an extra word to a telephone number can mean a re-print. Get someone else to check for you and report back before you submit your files to your chosen local printer for a brochure printing service in Stroud.
Choosing Too Light a Paper Weight
A standard, internal printed brochure would typically be printed on a mid weight 130gsm paper, internal pages for a saddle-stitched brochure would be printed on a heavier weight for them to feel solid and not to show print from the reverse side of the page.
