March is Here so it’s Time to Get on With the Gardening
As the days start to get longer and we start to see spring return, this inspires many of us to get out into the garden and to start getting on with all of those jobs that need to be done out there. Many flowers are now starting to appear, from daffodils to the blackthorn in the hedgerows, and now is also a good time to get on with the things that need to be done in the garden after the long cold wet and often windy winter has likely wreaked havoc on the garden!
Firstly, you may need to make some repairs, so have a look around the garden to check what needs to be done after the bad weather. Start with all of the garden structures and work out if any repairs need to be done. Fences and sheds often get damaged in bad weather especially if they are older. You can head to a local timber supplier like this Salisbury timber merchants https://www.timbco.co.uk if you are looking for some suitable wood to make repairs with, or if the structure is very badly damaged it might be better to replace it entirely.
If you have a lawn you might want to give it a mow on the first dry day in spring. First you should check that your lawn mower is in good working order as it will have been stored over the winter, and once you start mowing the lawn it is advised that then do it once a fortnight. The time that most people do their first mow of the spring is around mid-March but of course make sure that you do it on a dry day.
Something else that many gardeners will now be itching to do is getting all of those new seeds sown! Growing flowers from seed is so rewarding, however with the weather still being quite unpredictable, it is best to start lots of types of seeds off in a sheltered place away from frost. Ideally you would do this in a greenhouse but if you don’t have one, start them in your home until the frosts are over and you can then go and plant them in the garden.
